The North Missouri Sportsman’s Alliance, Missouri Department of Conservation, and Shortgrass Chapter of Quail Forever will host the free annual Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the large pond on the west side of Legacy Living in north Chillicothe, located east of Highway 65 across from FCS Financial. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and children ages 15 and younger are invited to enjoy a morning of fishing, free lunch, and giveaways valued at more than $2,000, including rod-and-reel combos, tackle boxes, and assorted fishing gear. Each registered child will receive free fishing tackle, and the Missouri Department of Conservation will provide live bait, tackle, and assistance for participants who need equipment. Jerseys Sports Grill and the local Pepsi-Cola distributor are sponsoring lunch and beverages for all attendees. Organizers emphasize the event is focused on outdoor fun and family participation rather than competition, and children must be present at the end of the derby to receive giveaway items. Volunteers from all three organizations will be on hand to assist throughout the morning, and adults are asked to accompany and supervise children during the event.
